Paper (noun, masculine)
"A smooth sheet material used for writing, printing, drawing, packaging, and similar purposes. Paper in modern times is made from wood fibers, cotton, flax, or various other plants. In earlier times, it was made from ropes and ragcloth. Ancient paper was likely made from papyrus (a type of reed)."

Many people ask me where the inspiration for my work comes from, and I always smile and say that I am deeply drawn to the world of paper and techniques that manipulate paper.

Paper is an ancient material that has served us faithfully for over three thousand years. There are almost no limitations to its capabilities and the various manipulations that can be done with it. It can be cut, folded, twisted, crumpled, curled, torn, crushed, shredded, pulped, dyed, printed on, compressed, softened, and more.

The uses of paper are numerous. It can be made into hats, rugs, lanterns, aprons, disposable clothing, partitions, cuffs, umbrellas, plates, cups, birthday decorations, kites, paper balloons, windmills, and even works of art and paper sculptures.

During my years as a fashion designer (and also during my years of study), I learned that working with paper patterns is an integral part of a fashion designer's work. Working with paper fascinates and interests me—the transition from paper to fabric and from fabric to paper forms, in my opinion, a foundation for innovation in fashion design.

Fashion today is greatly influenced by paper, and I thoroughly enjoy using it as a source of inspiration. I've chosen to reveal here some of my greatest inspirations and showcase the elements I use when I set out to design new pieces.
